Our History

The Khan Group, founded in 1997, began its journey as Pentagon Food Group, a food distribution company. Under the leadership of CEO and Managing Director Ashfaq Khan, the business has grown significantly, becoming one of the leading food distributors in the UK. Building on this success, the group expanded its operations to Pakistan and UAE , quickly establishing itself as a top food distributor in the region. 

Today, the Khan Group oversees a diverse range of key businesses across multiple industries. Its portfolio includes food distribution, food cash and carry, and retail food supply. In the property sector, the group offers shared accommodation rental flats and large storage units for rent. Additionally, the Khan Group is active in real estate and construction, all supported by its Global Business Services (GBS) office located in Islamabad, Pakistan. With operations spanning the UK, UAE, and Pakistan, the group maintains a strong global presence and continues to expand its business network.

Started Wholesaling94 Elm Street, Stoke on Trent

Ash and Arfat Khan constructed a 500 SQFT garden shed at the rear of their father's corner store. Born and raised in a retail environment, the brothers were eager to supply into the growing fast food sector, with limited resource and capital, the brothers decided to erect a wooden garden shed to store the products that they bought from wholesalers to then distribute to the fast food trade within Staffordshire.

Growth1a Nevada Lane, Burslem

Following the early success of their wholesale business, the brothers decided to buy a small warehouse for the additional storage of products that they would buy in bulk. In a local auction the brothers purchased a 1000 SQFT freehold warehouse, they recall the excitement of having their first fork lift truck to then be able to buy in pallet quantities and store in bulk.

Growth280 Waterloo Road, Burslem

To service the continuous growth of the business, another freehold property was purchased in the heart of Burslem, Stoke On Trent. The site was perfect for the growth of the distribution business as well establishing a retail supermarket as it had 2 detached warehouses and ample carpark located on the main A53. Continued to grow the fast food distribution business.

Petroleum RetailWaterloo Road, Burslem

Whilst the distribution business was in growth at the new site, an opportunity to acquire a freehold Total petrol station was presented, this was acquired and consolidated within the business operations, the petrol station was located on the A53 and only yards away from the distribution business. The group now had TO in excess of £7m.

As the fast food distribution business was rapidly growing, we decided to utilize the second warehouse on the site and converted it into the largest ethnic retail supermarket in Stoke-on-Trent, Freshways opened on 09/11/2009

In August 2011 we acquired the customer base of a failing fast food distribution business from a competitor and integrated the operations and business processes, group TO was now in excess of £14m.

Moved into our purpose built 80,000 Sqft distribution center in Stoke-on-Trent, which provided further growth capability and potential to the distribution business. This enabled us to increase our distribution network and our coverage now vastly increased. Business TO was now in excess of £26m.

Freshways Cash & CarryDerby

Linking the distribution business with our Freshways brand enabled us to drive growth across the entire sector, being the first fast food distributor to align convenience with a delivery service. We opened our second Freshways site in Derby in January 2018.

Established and commissioned a Global Business Support Centre in Pakistan. This provided the group with additional central administration support alongside growing a platform to consolidate all back end functions and processes.

To expand our Global presence, the business acquired a three acre site in Pakistan and commenced the construction of a state-of-the-art, purpose built, ambient, chilled and frozen distribution center for the Pakistan market, operating in the HoReCa sector.

Established and commissioned a Global Business Support Centre in Dubai, located in the building of Damac Smart Heights. This provided the group with expanding its reach into the MENA region and securing their presence into prominent regions along the trade route.
